What is a prosthodontist?

Dr. Seal and Dr. Schaefer are prosthodontists, who specialize in the restoration and replacement of natural teeth. Prosthodontists are not just general dentists. Following four years of dental school, prosthodontists complete two to three additional years of residency training in an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited graduate program. This program ensures the mastery of the science and advanced techniques necessary to create long lasting, functional and natural restorations.  While it is common to see the phrase “cosmetic dentist”, cosmetic dentistry is not an actual dental specialty and these dentists have not completed a residency program.  Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the ADA.  Fewer than 2% of all dentists are prosthodontists, and Dr. Seal has been recognized as a leader in this highly specialized field.

A large part of Dr. Seal’s practice is also focused on maintaining your natural teeth and your dental health. These services include regular cleaning and hygiene appointments as well as conservative periodontal maintenance based on your personal oral health needs.
